Prof. Dr. Rozhan Mohammed Idrus
Research Fellow

Prof. Dr. Rozhan Mohammed Idrus, a Research Fellow at the Institute of Islamic Science (ISI), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), is a distinguished expert in distance education and e-learning with over 30 years of experience. He has received multiple international awards, including recognition for excellence in e-learning and immersive technology studies. His contributions span research, consultancy, and extensive publications, along with keynote presentations in 18 countries.

Prof. Rozhan has worked with global organizations such as the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), ISESCO, SEAMEO-RECSAM, and UNESCO. He pioneered innovations such as the use of SMS in science education and introduced the concept of technogogy, integrating pedagogy and technology in learning.

He has also contributed significantly to the advancement of MOOCs and Open Educational Resources (OER), promoting global access to education. USIM, under such initiatives, has developed open online courses and became the first Malaysian public university listed on Apple iTunesU, supporting the sharing of knowledge based on Naqli and Aqli principles.

Dr. Haji Norakyairee Mohd Raus has been entrusted as the Director of the Ibnu Ummi Maktum Research Centre at USIM and has served for 20 years at the university as a lecturer in the Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies.

His greatest achievement while leading the Ibnu Ummi Maktum Research Centre is the recognition of the Sign Language Quran Application in the Malaysia Book of Records as the first Sign Language Quran application in Malaysia.

Throughout his service at USIM, he has been involved in more than 30 research and innovation projects related to Islam and persons with disabilities (PWDs), including Smart Iqra’ Braille, the Guidelines for the Publication of the Malaysian Braille Mushaf al-Quran, the development of an Islamic glossary application for the hearing-impaired (i-Sign Islami), the empowerment of Quran teaching and learning for PWDs, and many others.
